The Business

We're looking for a Legal Counsel to join our RBS International business in Luxembourg

  • You'll support the legal strategy and offer expert and accurate legal advice
  • It's a chance to be a key player in providing critical support and advice
  • You'll work closely with RBSI's business in Luxembourg and other countries

What you'll do

You'll support RBS International (RBSI) in Luxembourg to successfully deliver the legal strategy. Working closely with stakeholders and legal colleagues in other parts of RBS, you'll make sure any issues, projects and initiatives are delivered in a timely manner by managing and coordinating the delivery of legal advice and support. 

Delivering expert, accurate and cost effective legal advice, you'll make sure it is understandable to non-lawyers and that it's proactive, commercial and managing legal risks. This will allow you to manage and deliver the communication of internal and external legal advice on new and existing business and projects to stakeholders.

Your role will also involve:

  • Working on wider projects and workstreams that affect RBSI's other financial services businesses
  • Striving for continuous improvements, and promoting a culture of cost effectiveness and controls
  • Attending business risk and control committees, identifying and evaluating issues and forming solutions to mitigate risk
  • Assisting the Luxembourg management team with business-related initiatives and projects
  • Working closely with other teams such as Compliance & Regulatory Affairs to manage all types of risk within the business

The skills you'll need

You'll be a Luxembourg-law qualified lawyer, and have proven experience of providing legal and commercial advice in relation to Luxembourg funds and investment businesses. This will include dealing with litigation in a constantly changing regulatory environment, and you'll have experience working with leading law firms and other professional advisers and consultants.

Alongside this, you'll demonstrate:

  • Knowledge of the business activities and commercial environment in which we operate
  • The ability to gain respect from the senior executive, your colleagues and external professional contacts
  • Willingness to keep up to date with relevant legal and market developments
  • Understanding of legal issues associated with the Luxembourg funds and banking business, and the financial services industry
  • Strong commercial awareness and analytical skills
