Creating a place for everyone Inclusion

We value the diversity of our employees and are committed to creating an inclusive culture. We prize fairness, want to attract and retain talent and enable employees to reach their full potential. We encourage employees to bring the best of themselves to work, to recognise and celebrate differences and to be respectful and curious about diversity.

Our employee led networks are important partners in helping us create an inclusive culture. These networks inspire our employees to develop and enhance their skills and build successful careers. Most importantly they are open to everyone.

Our efforts have been recognised. We are well represented across the major UK industry diversity & inclusion benchmarks. We have two of the industry's largest internal networks:

Our internal networks

Focused Women

Focused Women

The Coutts Women's Network (CWN) has always been focused on providing a sounding board for women across our business, while inspiring, developing and retaining female talent. One of the new five strategic aims for the Wealth division is to invest in our people and support our communities. As a well established network we are in a prime position to support and cultivate this further. To build on this, throughout 2014 the CWN will focus on four key themes:

  • Networking
  • Role modelling
  • Development
  • Recognition

The Rainbow Network

The Rainbow Network

The RBS Rainbow Network was established in 2005 by two employees and has an annual growing global membership.

The purpose of the network is to provide insight, education and support from our unique position within the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) community. Through this we work globally with the wider business, enabling us to provide the right services to our customers, colleagues and communities where these services touch the LGBT sphere.

With commitment and support from our executives to help open doors and set the agenda, the network is run voluntarily by employees and has developed strong partnerships within RBS and with local, national and global LGBT organisations.

Enable

Enable

The RBS disability network was set up in 2013. We are a group of RBS employees who believe that, by promoting awareness of disability and its impact, we can create a better bank for colleagues, customers and the communities where we work. We're working together to help develop a truly inclusive culture within RBS, one that enables people, with all abilities, and those who care for others, to bring the best of themselves to work.

Families and Carers

Families and Carers

The Families and Carers Network was established to support and enable parents and carers to achieve a successful work-life balance. We promote a supportive work environment which enables parents and carers to realise their full potential, to network across the Group and to tap into internal and external resources for development opportunities and advice. We arrange regular seminars and webinars covering matters relating to both parenting and caring responsibilities and hold monthly coffee meets where our members can network with people in similar situations to themselves to share and learn from their experiences.

RBS Multicultural Network

RBS Multicultural Network

We are an employee led network, open to all colleagues across RBS. Our mission is to raise awareness of cultural differences in order to embed behaviours that allow business to be conducted ethically. In doing so we enhance the offerings to the diverse population of our employees, customers and the communities we serve.

We aim to:

  • Proactively support the recruitment, development and retention of skilled employees from all backgrounds
  • Represent all cultures through celebrations and raising awareness to help combat any potential barriers impacting us living our values
  • Work collaboratively with our business to develop creative solutions that serve the needs of our diverse range of customers
