The Requirements

Join us as Head of Advisory Intermediaries for Coutts in London

  • Take on a wide ranging role which is crucial to the development of our external business development strategy at Coutts
  • You'll lead and drive the performance of the Centres of Influence (COI) and Intermediaries Business Development team in line with our ambitions and long term goals
  • Working in conjunction with our Private Banking Executive Committee, you'll develop a clear strategy and roadmap for external business development; in the process you'll be honing your leadership talents, growing a strong network and making a real difference to our business

What you'll do

Using your commercial and strategic expertise, you'll define the COI and intermediaries business development roadmap, and provide leadership and direction for activities and expected commercial outcomes. In this context, COIs are defined as lawyers, accountants, corporate finance and private equity boutiques, excluding mortgage brokers and property search agents.

You'll develop a strategic plan that links with and supports our wider Private Banking ambitions, and will translate this plan into tangible objectives. This will involve working closely with senior and executive stakeholders in the Private Banking business. You'll also develop and oversee the implementation of an enhanced monitoring and reporting framework, using digital solutions to manage all external business development conversations, actions and new business.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Creating a group of ambassadors from our Coverage teams for different intermediary segments; training them to position the whole franchise, coordinate and quality control their activities, and have a rolling programme of communications and events
  • Providing MI reporting on the outcome of activity and two way referrals, generating opportunity in line with appetite
  • Coordinating – and where there are gaps creating – panels of intermediaries that clients can be referred to for complementary services
  • Acting as an ambassador for external business development innovation and getting involved in wider Private Banking projects
  • Proactively identifying and managing conduct risk and fostering a responsible and robust culture of risk management

The skills you'll need

We're looking for someone with strategic vision, strong commercial acumen and excellent relationship building skills. You'll need a thorough understanding of private banking, wealth management products and services, the clients we serve and the market in which we operate.

You'll also need experience leading and delivering commercial plans and reporting frameworks. You'll have experience defining and delivering strategies which draw the big picture together with the details and practicalities needed for a plan to succeed.

We'll also look for you to demonstrate:

  • Leadership skills and the ability to work influentially with senior colleagues up to an executive level
  • Broad private banking industry knowledge and sound understanding of the wider market, along with a strong external network within the industry
  • The ability to grow and leverage a productive network, both internally and externally
  • The impact and personal integrity to act as an ambassador for our business with intermediaries
  • A strong client focus and a passion for delivering and maintaining outstanding levels of service for our clients
  • A proven record with operational and financial planning and control
  • Line management experience, with the ability to develop and motivate others, and foster a high performing team culture
